Brainwave Entrainment: A New Method Of Meditation?
Gradually becoming one of the great new leaders in brain & mind technology is brainwave entrainment. Doctors in the fields of medical science, psychology, neurology, sound therapy, hypnotherapy, etc. are experiencing the effectiveness of brainwave entrainment in their work with their clients. Two of the more popular forms of brainwave entrainment are known as 1. binaural beats, and 2. isochronic tones. Those who have experienced the effectiveness of isochronic tones and binaural beats testify that the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of listening to binaural beats or isochronic tones are similar to the benefits one receives after years of meditation practice.
In general terms brainwave entrainment is the method of using external stimulus, such as binaural beats or isochronic tones, for bringing a persons brainwaves to an intended brainwave level that corresponds with the entrainment used. For example if one is listening to binaural beats that are set at a frequency of 9 hz, then eventually that persons brainwaves will fall into step with that frequency level.
In fact any method that is used to cause your brainwave frequencies to move in sync with the method being used (whether it be sound frequencies, flashing lights, chanting, the steady beating of a drum etc.) is a form of brainwave entrainment.
Although brainwave entrainment in the form of listening to binaural beats or isochronic tones is not extremely well-known it has none the less been gaining ground and will probably become more popular as we move deeper into the 21th century and people start looking for faster ways to experience the benefits of meditation while bypassing traditional meditation methods which can become tedious at times.
Let us look at how brainwave entrainment and meditation relate to one another. Scientifically speaking meditation basically alters ones brainwaves. Different brainwave states are associated with different benefits and experiences. For example when your mind is racing, stressed, unable to relax or be still, perhaps caught in emotional turmoil, arguing, hating, bitter, screaming, or confused, racing a zillion miles a second etc., you are probably plugged into a brainwave state at the beta or even gamma levels.
Binaural beats and isochronic tones accomplish the same purposes, but with this one major difference: the benefits that one reaps after years of meditation practice can happen a lot sooner if you get into the habit of daily listening to certain brainwave sessions that are designed specifically for training the brain to enter the alpha, theta, or delta levels.
Meditation helps train the brain to be more synchronized and balanced. Periods of regular meditation practice help bring the brain from a gamma or beta level to a more relaxed alpha level, or even deeper to a theta level, and ultimately in very deep, intense meditation you can reach the delta level. Delta is a very life-giving, rejuvenating state of mind, but few reach it often enough, not even when they sleep.
Although different methods and tools have been used in an attempt to reach deeper and more rejuvenating levels of consciousness that are beyond our thoughts, and even beyond our subconscious and unconscious levels of mind, the main emphasis here for attaining to such levels is the use the brainwave entrainment method of listening to soothing ambient soundscape sessions or nature sounds or new age music embedded with background binaural beat or isochronic tone frequencies.
Basically meditation is made easy by means of the brainwave entrainment method of listening to either binaural beats or isochronic tones. In a way simply by listening to cds or mp3s that contain binaural or isochronic frequencies you are on a shortcut path to meditation, and to most people it is probably a new method of meditation altogether.
It has been scientifically documented that periods of regular brainwave entrainment by means of listening to cds or mp3’s embedded with binaural beats or isochronic tones can lead to an increase in overall emotional calmness, relaxation, deep inner peace, intelligence, creativity, focus mental clarity, memory improvement, raising energy levels, raising your IQ, and reducing stress. These are the same benefits one experiences during meditation.
Ultimately what all this comes down to is that you dont really need to waste mental energy trying to figure out how all this works. You need to experience it and then see for yourself. Brainwave entrainment by means of listening to binaural beats or isochronic tones (embedded into nature sounds, ambient soundscapes or new age music ” makes it all the more pleasant and motivating to listen to everyday) can easily fit into your daily schedule and you will begin to reap the benefits a lot sooner than you would have sitting in meditation everyday for the same amount of time.
Maybe you are now curious to search more in depth into this subject. Or you maybe you want find a brainwave entrainment product to buy. In the area of brainwave tech in general there are some excellent companies who create high quality mp3 and cd brainwave sessions. Some are very expensive, others are less expensive but of the same quality (everyone has their reasons for the prices they choose for their products). You dont need to rush anything. Start small ” with a free sample ” or with a more affordable session or bundle of sessions that you can get very cheaply but are of the same quality and effectiveness as the most expensive programs.

Ethics in Psychology and the Mental Health Professions: Standards and Cases (Oxford Textbooks in Clinical Psychology)Most mental health professionals and behavioral scientists enter the field with a strong desire to help others, but clinical practice and research endeavors often involve decision-making in the context of ethical ambiguity. Good intentions are important, but unfortunately, they do not always protect the practitioner and client from breaches in ethical conduct. Academics, researchers, and students also face a range of ethical challenges from the classroom to the laboratory. Now in a new expanded edition, Ethics in Psychology and the Mental Health Professions, the most widely read and cited ethics textbook in psychology, has emerged with a broadened scope extending across the mental health and behavioral science fields. The revised volume considers many of the ethical questions and dilemmas that mental health professionals encounter in their everyday practice, research, and teaching. The book has been completely updated and is now also relevant for counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, and psychiatrists, and includes the ethics codes of those groups as appendices. Providing both a critical assessment and elucidation of key topics in the APA's guidelines, this comprehensive volume takes a practical approach to ethics and offers constructive means for both preventing problems, recognizing, approaching, and resolving ethical predicaments. Written in a highly readable and accessible style, this new edition retains the key features which have contributed to its popularity, including hundreds of case studies that provide illustrative guidance on a wide variety of topics, including fee setting, advertising for clients, research ethics, sexual attraction, how to confront observed unethical conduct in others, and confidentiality, among others.
